「給你」不是giveyou、「普通」不是soso，這八句台式英文你錯了幾個？

很多人在講英文前，都會先用中文思考該怎麼表達，因而講出不太道地的英文用法。今天小V將說明台灣人最常見的錯誤用法，幫助你說出一口流利的道地英文。

1. 在我的印象中⋯⋯

（X）in my impression（O）under the impression

impression是「印象、感覺」，但要描述「在我的印象中」，並不是用介系詞in，而是要用“under” the impression，或是說I get／have the impression that ⋯⋯。一般印象叫做general impression。

I was under the impression that you fall in love with a French, right?在我印象中，你跟一個法國人在一起，對嗎？

2.“enthusiastic”怎麼拼？

（X）How to spell “enthusiastic”?（O）How do you spell “enthusiastic”?

當我們問「要怎麼做⋯⋯」的時候，會講How to ⋯⋯.?，但這個句型在文法上完全是錯誤的。How to加上原形動詞組成一個句子，而這個句子中缺乏主詞，並不能算一個完整的句子。

我們應該加入第一人稱，寫成How do you spell“enthusiastic”或是Do you know how to spell “enthusiastic”。

3. 給你

（X）Give you.（O）Here you are.／Here you go.

give you 也是台灣人超常出現的錯誤，屬於直翻的錯誤。英語系國家會用Here you are. 或是There you are.。美式則是用Here you go. 或是There you go.，這兩句和 Here you are. 或There you are. 沒有分別，只是語氣較為隨性一些。

A: Could you please pass me the salt and pepper?B: Yes, here you go.
Ａ：可以幫我拿一下胡椒和鹽嗎？Ｂ：好啊，給你。

4. 普普通通；還好

（X）so-so（O）all right／not too bad／OK

外國人很少用so-so 這個詞，在對話中，要盡量避免講出so-so，因為這個詞是指「馬馬虎虎」，代表你對正在談論的話題沒有什麼看法，這會讓對話整個乾掉呢！因此，想表達「還好」，就盡量使用all right／not too bad／OK。

A: Have you watched “Wonder Woman” already?B: Yes! I just watched it with my boyfriend last night.A: Oh, is it worth watching?B: The movie was OK.
Ａ：你看過《神力女超人》了嗎？Ｂ：看過啦！我昨天晚上才跟我男友去看。Ａ：噢！很推嗎？Ｂ：普普通通。

5. 機率很大

（X）chances are big（O）chances are high

中文會講機率很大或是機率很高，但在英文裡只有chances are high的說法唷！

A: Chances are high that you won the lottery.B: Sure⋯⋯ when pigs fly.
A: 我覺得你中樂透的機率蠻大的。B: 當然⋯⋯想得美。

6. 我不怕冷

（X）I’m not afraid of cold.（O）The cold doesn’t bother me.

afraid of後面只能接具體的名詞，例如：I’m afraid of cockroach.，要說明自己怕冷，冷是一個抽象的概念，因此不能直接說I’m afraid of cold.。還記得電影《冰雪奇緣》主題曲裡的歌詞有唱到 “The cold never bothered me anyway.” 就是這樣的用法喔！

7. 藥效退了

（X）the drug effect disappear（O）the drug effect wears off

我們把「藥效退了／消除」思考成英文，就會直覺翻譯成 disappear。雖然 disappear 並非文法錯誤的用法，但外國人不會這麼講。wear off是指「逐漸消退、消逝」。

The effect of the painkiller began to wear off.止痛藥藥效開始漸漸消退。

8. 價格適中的

（X）the price is suitable（O）the price is right／reasonable

suitable是指「合適的、相配的」，最常見的用法是以否定的形式出現在告示或通知中，如：未滿十八歲不宜觀賞－－Not suitable for minors under 18 years of age. 而要形容價格適中的話，我們會用 right，或換個方式描述價錢合理：price is reasonable。
